How to maintain your tyres
The tyre also deserves medicure and pampering, knowing that it does not just help bring to reality what the engine and the gearbox work tireless to achieve ( movement) it also helps to reduce viberations and shock in the car.
Ways to care for the tyre.
1. Inflating to proper pressure: Every car has a specific tyre pressure stipulated by the manufacturer. The reason for this is to avoid over inflation and under inflation which has the following adverse effect.
a. Over Inflation: The tyre begins to wear off from both side (shoulders) and the vehicle will start bouncing. Please note that there are other things that can make a car bounce.
b. Under Inflation: The tyre begins to wear off from the centre and the steering becomes harder.
The specified tyre pressure can be found by the door pillar of some vehicles and in the fuel thank openner on others.
2. Wheel balancing and alignment: When the alignment of a car is off, the tyre begins to wear of from one of the shoulders. An un even wear is found on the tyre when its not ballanced. So it is advisable to balance the tyre of your cars every six months or at most yearly. Please not after suspension repairs it is advisable to do wheel alignment.
3. Take note of sounds from the suspension and repair accordingly. Bad suspension affects the alignment of your car and in turn affects the tyre as seen above.
4. Tyre Rotation : This helps to distribute wear and tear round the 4 tyres or 5 tyres as the case maybe. Check car owners manual on the best way to rotate your tyres.
5. Check Load index of your tyres in order not to over load the tyres.
6. Check the speed rating of your tyres.
