Crankshaft position sensor

The crankshaft position sensor is a transducer positioned very close to the crankshaft, which uses hall effect to read the speed of the crankshaft.
To understand the use of the sensor we must understand what the crankshaft does in the engine. The crankshaft with the help of the camshafts controls all the strokes in the engine ( intake, compression, power and exhaust). This action is what produces the energy that drives the transition, the compressor, the water pump and the alternator.

The crankshaft position sensor helps send messages to the ECU (engine control unit) which sends back information that controls the valves, Spark plugs, injector nozzle telling them which cylinder is ready for their action.
A bad crankshaft position sensor can frustrate you, and you might be thinking " is any witch following me from the village".
Symptoms of bad Crankshaft sensor.

  • Blinking of check engine light.
  • Ignition malfunction
  • Stalling and backfiring
  • Engine vibration
When you notice any of these please take your car to the nearest dealership for a quick scan, to avoid your car stopping on the road.
